You said you're 60. I'm also in my 60s. Not to excuse the current bigotry, at all, even a little bit, but do you think that people in our age group were simply somehow taken aback by the miracles of modern medicine? As I write this, it just sounds so ludicrous as an excuse. I'm just trying to get my arms around the effort to harm trans people.
There is no other way to put it. HARM. I have a trans friend, and she is concerned that legislators will act similarly in Georgia. She has put a LOT of work into her transition. Her drivers license identifies her as female. She's worried they'll try to force her to change that.
Hopefully, this will all not simply pass, but it is actually passing as we continue to educate people that these attempts to harm trans folks are already harming them. It's a form of bullying.
I think I've been to a United Church of Christ service, too, twenty or so years ago, and they were accepting of all different kinds of folks. Not sure if there was a specific denomination involved. I was just visiting in the town it was in.
That's an encouraging story, though!
