Yes, agreed. I would have voted for Mr. Potato Head over Trump. Biden has actually been a pleasant surprise to me, Umair’s complaints notwithstanding. Although I do absolutely understand the general frustration. And I think Pramila Jayapal’s efforts as the leader of the progressive caucus in trying to push the Biden proposals through are being done with a wink and a nod from Biden, which means Pelosi will see it through.
Regarding the Anita Hill thing — I’m 62 and I was pretty homophobic as a young man. My point is that we change when we stumble through life experiences. Guys like Biden (and me!) grew up hearing things beat into our heads. My parents were racist, too, but luckily for some reason I am not really aware of, I rejected that, probably simply because I grew up with so many Black kids as friends. And my homophobia wasn’t vocal — in fact the only time I vocalized it was with a gay friend in college, who really set me straight in a kind, loving way.
In Biden’s case, his loss and grief has probably changed him. I think overall he’s a class act.
We are beyond out of time with the climate thing. The coming proposals barely scratch the surface of what really needs to be done. Thanks for your response!
