Yep the original cyber attack probably is. But according to one of the banks that contacted me, the SSNs then get purchased by all kinds of people. The person trying to buy a car using my social was in Minnesota.

My credit score has dropped 70 points in 3 weeks because of these weasels (five attempts in one week). Luckily it was at 820 or so and should bounce back soon once the credit requests are removed but still aggravating.
