When I was in college (a state school), I tuition was around three hundred bucks. Vending machine money compared to the billions that are thrown around by the uber-wealthy these days.
That same school cost $16000 per semester last i checked.
New cars were affordable for everyone (although in retrospect, maybe they shouldn't have been, since we shouldn't be driving them). Sure, they stalled at the stoplight a lot, but still.
And housing was actually affordable. Can you youngins even imagine that?
Teachers were paid poorly then, too, but didn't have to go through the bullshit of censorship and the threat of some incel walking through the hall with an AR weapon.
Guns don't kill people, right? The hell with that, we all had six shooters in those day. Guns do kill people.
I was in a tornado once when I lived in the Chicago area. It was 30 or so years ago and I was driving my girlfriend's son somewhere. You should have seen his face when the car lifted off the ground for a few seconds.
But SCIENCE shows that tornadoes are getting worse and more frequent. Climate denialists will continue to be assholes because that's the defense mechanism that they thrive on. Eventually, their homes will be flooded, burned, or torn up by wind. Then they'll shut up.
The tornado I was in, if it happened today, would have thrown me to Kentucky.
Glad you're safe. Tornadoes have always been scary, but now even more so.
