What a great analogy! I was thinking about that when the Tyre Nichols video was released. I don't think I was quite making that exact same connection, but there was that vague sense in the back of my mind thinking, "I don't enjoy horror movies, so why would I watch this?"

I may have mentioned the book "The American Slave Coast: A History of the Slave-Breeding Industry" to you before - if so my apologies. But that book should be required reading for all white folks, especially in Florida. DeSantis should be roped to a chair and have it read to him on a hot humid day with no available air conditioning.

The book takes a deep dive into the breeding of slaves as well as coffles - which were chained marches from the northeastern coast to plantations in the south. White folks should understand that these were like the Burma road death marches of World War 2, and that they happened on a regular basis. There is a myth among white folks that the North was relatively benign in its treatment of Black folks. The opposite is true.

That's not the only book, either. There is a lot of powerful literature out there. People need to read and understand the full scope of what happened so that these attempts by the likes of DeSantis to stuff history into a rose-colored white trashbag are rejected with force and vigor. The rose coloring I guess would be insdie the white trashbag!
