Unfortunately, America is hardly alone in having terrible political leaders.
As you alluded to, Britain is flooded with them. Hungary has Orbán. Israel has Netanyahu. Italy has been a circus of clowns for decades. I could go on tour of the Arabian nations, but I'd just have to throw up my hands when I reached the House of Saud.
Iran has woman-hating theocratic terrorists (thanks in no small part to U.S. policy). Russia has Putin and his poisons. China has Xi and his Uighur gulags and his growing surveillance state.
There's Bolsonaro in Brazil, Maduro in Venezuela, and the judge, jury, and executioner Duterte in the Philippines.
There is Erdoğan in Turkey, and a who's who of poor leaders in the states that used to comprise the Soviet Union's southern perimeter.
One could almost say that Angela Merkel stands alone as a decent world leader, and I'm sure folks from Germany would quickly be able to point out some of her flaws, too.
In other words, the world as a whole is suffering from poor leadership. This, while the planet gasps for air during what is probably an irredeemable climate change death spiral.
The U.S. does indeed make poor choices, and part of that reason is a celebrity culture where TikTok "influencers" actually do influence. It's a Kardashian culture that worships money, status, bling, and shouting.
Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of better examples out there. Europe, as a whole, is governed better, but it's not like it's the difference between summa cum laude and the D student. It's more like the difference between the D and F students.
EDIT: There are some nice comments here about responsible world leaders. It’s a crime I forgot about New Zealand’s Jacinda Ardern, and there were others mentioned that I didn’t know about. It’s good to know there are a few countries out there where people are electing decent leaders. Not many, emphasis on a “few”. I should add that the U.S. should be a leader in that area, and Umair’s points are well taken. My intent was to push off a little on singling out the U.S. I generally agree with Umair’s overall themes of general disgust and dismay. And to point out that the world overall is in sad shape when it comes to political leadership.
