Those are all good points. I've often thought that the intent of Old Testament stories was to merely add some civility to ancient life. Much of the intent of fundamentalists (of all religions) is to sow discord over gay life, but what the old timers in ancient days were REALLY worried about was the somewhat rampant practice of real "brother to brother" sex. I don't have the scholarly qualifications to prove it, but I suspect that is what they meant when they were referring to stuff like that. Incest was faiirly common in those days. So stories were written to discourage it.
