This was pre-Covid, pre-Zoom. I had done some interviews for other companies via video, but only when it involved different cities.
Actually, the same thing pretty much happened when I did a video interview with Nike (also pre-Covid), which also started with a couple of phone interviews. As soon as the video cam started firing up, the expression on the face of my main contact was quite telling. I cut that one short, too.
Local interviews were all done by phone, initially. As I understand it, this has all changed since Covid. My most recent gig wasn't a perm job but lasted two years anyway, and that was done via Zoom, but they were out of Denver, so that would have been done through video even back in the day. The latest gig was post-Covid, so I suspect the interviewer would have wanted to do a video interview no matter what. It was an important role even though just free lance, but I never physically went to Denver. It was all video.
