This old socialist has been tired of it for a long time. But with Kamala I see a glimmer of hope. I don't expect her to dramatically change things, but I also, for the first time since I started voting, wouldn't consider it an impossibility, either. Her running mate has signed and implemented some very good legislation in MN, along with another governor who has done similar things, Pritzger in Illinois, the only state I'm aware of to eliminate cash bail for most crimes outside of rape and murder.
Pritzger was also under serious consideration as a Veep. I think the only reason he didn't get the nod was because she connected with Walz better, and, frankly, she doesn't need Illinois. It's already voting for her.
She also shunned Netnyahu when he visited, deciding that attending a sorority event (or something like that, I can't remember exactly) was more important than attending his speech to Congress.
All of this tells me she has in mind some progressive policies that expediency will not permit her to broadcast. She does have an election to win, after all.
Kamala has built her entire career around the prospect of this moment, and this presidency. I lived in SF when she was DA. "This woman will run for president someday," I said back then.
Don't be surprised if she has her eye on even bigger things.
And yes, the Caribbean islands were a hellhole, just like the U.S. A lot of white folks aren't aware that there were even more Africans sent outside the U.S. than to the U.S. Anyway, it's not up to me as a white person to decide on her Blackness. That was an insane comment by the Orange one, who wasn't always orange.
Sheesh, that was a long comment. Sorry, lol :-)
