This doesn't take away from the overall message of your post, since more than 1% of any demographic voting for Trump is insane for the reasons you (as usual) so well explain, but The NBC poll that showed this has been pretty heavily debunked by the indigenous community:

What I find scary about the first poll is that Republicans have convinced all demographics, including Latino, that instant immigration is bad, bad, bad. A majority in all demographics have bought into the constant refrain that undocumented workers, no matter how long they have lived here, do not deserve a path to legal status.
This view is the direct result of decades of Republican propaganda, and was a big reason why Trump won, even though America actually needs these workers and kicking them out will have a substantial negative effect on the economy.
