I always thought Gore lost the election with one eye-roll during his debate with Dubya. He did what a lot of us would have, but enough people thought he looked like the smartest kid in the class that it may have cost him the election.

This country didn't deserve Al Gore, but the world needed him. Now, it may just be too late.
