There's no doubt that 26-year-olds are facing a ton of issues. I don't buy into everything Chomsky says, but if every 26 year old in the country gave him a read, it would be a step in the right direction.
The biggest question I've always had with homeownership is, who gets to own what? I remember taking a lake tour just before the pandemic, and the tour guide on the boat cursed under his breath as he explained how the rumor was that Clint Eastwood was going to buy the biggest house on the lake. Was it true? That's not the point. The guy running the tour boat knew HE would NEVER be able to buy it. So where do we draw the line on who owns what? What if the "people" somehow owned ALL the housing stock? Such a concept is an absolute pipe dream, but it's still an interesting thought.
So veer left. I can only cheer it on. Some of us old farts, when we say, think about the middle, are not saying it because you should become a centrist or neoliberal. It's just that at the national level, it's important to be realistic while you build a coalition of progressives and, hopefully, destroy the system we have now without having to go to war over it.
There's a real possibility that is not possible. I hope that it is, though, and so while idiots like Manchin gum up the works, hopefully, young progressives like you will keep electing true egalitarians like AOC and her friends.
It's going to be a long slog to win the local elections you need to win in order to beat back not only rampant, Ayn Rand capitalism, but now, an emerging fascism that is trying to make one last stand, and actually doing a pretty good job at it.
