The recent changes in the ACA have altered that dynamic a bit, at least for me. I'm in my 60s and a health plan was $800/month prior to the recent changes. I simply couldn't afford it. Now it's down to $260/month. The deductibles are still too high but I'm covered for catastrophic and my copays are reasonable. So I signed up.

I support my writing by doing other work - also freelance, so I can afford that - but overall, this country should be joining the rest of the civilized world with a nationally subsidized health care. Those platforms taking all that money out of your hard work can help pay for it.
