The inability to share is a part of it but the capitalists are very good at shoving opiates to the masses. The opiates take many forms.

From smart phones to (back in the day) television. From real opiates to booze. Everybody is too busy looking for an escape to think about sharing, much less actually doing anything about the corporate yoke that's strangling them.
