The "Hide" response feature is your friend here.

It is the meanest, roughest way you can treat attack dogs. It basically mutes their response so that nobody else can see it.

I have zero tolerance for personal attacks on my posts, and I simply eliminate these people from the conversation, even if I'm initially pissed off enough to respond.

Personal attack = Hide response.
