The governor is now Republican, and the House of Delegates now has a Republican majority.

That's makes it a red state, at least for now.

But I agree absolutely that McAuliffe was a terrible candidate. Seriously, almost anybody could have beaten him. Virginians don't like re-electing governors as it is. But a washed up clunker like him wasn't going to do well.
