The county sheriff system is so deeply embedded into justice infrastructure that the only way out seems to be a constitutional one, and there is just not enough public support for that kind of thing. It’s really pie in the sky thinking, unfortunately. But other avenues for change are available, and some of it had bipartisan support before congressional Republicans went off the deep end and implemented cancel culture on anyone not willing to back the crazy man.
Eventually, that will sort itself out, a normal mainstream centrist political party will emerge, and maybe everyone can get to work on this. I”m glad that in the meantime folks like you are digging in for solutions. So thanks for that.
