The backdrop to my novel MagicLand is even worse. It is set in a world 3,000 years after augmented humans (who are all rich because only rich people will be able to afford augmentation) decide to just eradicate the pesky rabble rousers who try to revolt. The novel doesn't go into much detail on that since it's set so far afterwards (but a bunch of my Medium short stories related to this do), but I take the threat fairly seriously.
