That's a great story about your brother in law. I rarely admit it in these pages but I have a friend who is a Trump supporter. He's about ten years younger than your brother in law. And...he's a nice guy. Takes great pains to help out some of the people who don't look like him in his neighborhood. Doesn't fit the stereotype at all. And has also taken his lumps.

If there is any hope regarding the Trump phenomenon I think it is just that people in general are fed up with politicians. Let's face it: Politics, in general, doesn't attract the best that society has to offer.

And our country is hardly alone in this. Just check out the leaders of most other countries.

Thanks for the well-crafted reminder to people like me who like to rant on these pages to keep things civil. Our current battles are mostly not against our fellow Americans (my occasional rants notwithstanding) but against political leaders who wish to divide us.
