Thanks for this. I always enjoy your perspective.
I can't speak to the appropriateness or inappropriateness of the reaction of Mr. Joseph - but I can say that if I ever say to a Black dude, "go back to your hood", I'd deserve a good middle finger unless he was a close friend and I was trash talking him (my close friend would probably reply, "I AM in my hood, and you're in it!").
Anyway, no, it's not a "Black only" word, but I think we all know why she said it.
It's one thing to have a disagreement over a civil matter, but it sounded to me like her true colors (no pun intended) came out when she let "slip" the phrase, "go back to your hood."
The subtle racism (is there really such a thing?) didn't seem to happen in the Chipotle case, which is one reason it was newsworthy.
I'd say I'm willing to deal with some affirmative action here on this subject. There may be some overreaction sometimes, but if it's rare enough to make the news, then maybe it's all just part of the healing process, which is a journey that only now seems to be starting.
