I of course an skeptical that the current Democratic leadership is capable of doing anything at all like this.
Biden won solely because Trump was so bloody awful. True, he won a lot of votes, but incumbent presidents are extremely difficult to beat, even when they are poor presidents. See George W Bush for an example.
Biden still got clobbered in rural areas, as I knew he would. The next Dem will, too. Unless they recharge.
I agree that getting Republicans on board for something like this would be impossible. But the Dems could actually win rural areas with a well thought out plan that focuses on re-engaging rural Americans with the economy in a substantial way.
The solutions have to speak to the existential crisis that exists in rural areas that are turning into wastelands of a poor, white underclass. This same solution can be used in existing poor urban areas, too.
It doesn't have to be THIS proposal. But it does need to address the core issues of hopelessness.
It's only a matter of time before people who live in decaying urban centers stop voting for Democrats. Many don't bother voting at all, knowing the futility of their votes.
