Thanks for the comment. I'm thinking more along the lines of Merriam Webster's definition, and more the archaic one:

archaic

a

: dread, terror

b

: the power to inspire dread

But also this:

an emotion variously combining dread, veneration, and wonder that is inspired by authority or by the sacred or sublime

One can be in awe of something without considering it a good thing. I am sure the Iraqis were "awed" by the shock and awe blitz campaign of the U.S., but not in a good way.
