It's an important book because it speaks to the things you are talking about - and I do think it should be required reading for students.
It's been a challenge all my life to understand the motives behind racism, and it's upsetting to see it making inroads again among young people, who I thought were over it.
I was at the Atlanta Jazz Festival today. Not many white people there. I wasn't feeling replaced, and I found it really hard to feel danger from a few thousand Black folks sitting in lounge chairs listening to music. Normally I wouldn't have even thought about it, but Buffalo was in my head.
It's all so strange.
