I think the difference is that these are New York state prosecutors with a small army of hungry prosecutors who are foaming at the mouth at the potential that a successful prosecution will do for their careers. Because at the end of the day, all lawyers are at their heart, politicians. And at the end of the day, this is a career maker for a case.
Merrick Garland has no real say in any of this, nor does any part of the Federal government, unless it wants to, and I don't get the sense that it wants to.
This is a state matter. And it's New York State, not, for example, Georgia, which also has an action item, a much more important one, I'd argue, regarding election interference, that I expect to never see light of day.
