I am encouraged by the sheer numbers of female agents. I just think women tend to be a bit more open minded than we men.

And yeah, same problem here on books. I think it's a tough job, but that's why I think they should focus not on what they personally favor, but just answer a question: Is this good writing?

The whole 30 pages thing is part of the problem.

They should ask for the entire novel, and read bits and pieces (nobody has time to read the whole thing when there are hundreds of queries per week). They should be able to discern quality writing from that.
