Thank you for this. I saw an ad for this show and didn't really think much about it because the original didn't really hit the mark for me - I thought it was sort of sappy. But I'm interested in this reboot thanks to this article.

It is sad that there is so much backlash to the increasing number of Black stories. I also think that there are a lot of kooks who are loud and vicious on social media who don't deserve an airing out. I'm not critiquing you for refuting them, I'm critiquing social media in general for being such a cesspool. It makes me cringe at how things on social media would have been when Roots was released. Yikes. The nutbags would have gone berserk.

In the end, people can whine all they want about it - there are simply too many good stories out there about the Black experience that are being unearthed, either through fictionalized accounts or through a deeper dive into history, and creative types will not be able to resist telling these stories.

So it doesn't matter what the complainers say. The hits will keep on coming!
