So true!!

One difference is that many nations in multiple continents were split into artificial borders with no regard to ethnic boundaries and often even full nationhood (at least in the eyes of the people who were being split apart).

The U.S. in a way has the same thing going on though, maybe, in a rather ugly way. We have white nationalists who want to be their own "nation." But that is a self inflicted wound, whereas other nations attacked by colonial powers have had to try to muddle through in unnatural ways.

But wow, I really did love this article. Bravo :-)
