So, sometimes, in my dialog writing, I push back on the notion of "So, blah blah," because I want the dialog to better reflect how the character really sounds.

For example, "So the train just kept coming! I wish they hadn't tied him to the tracks!" No pause after "so". She's very excited, after all.
