She hasn't backed down from it conceptually. She is pragmatic enough to understand that Americans don't seem to support it, because Republicans are much better at propaganda than progressives. They also have a powerful media network extolling the evils of government subsidized anything that pounds its message 24 hours a day.

Reality sucks, but Republicans are winning. Trump is actually ahead in some polls and tied in others.
