Reasonable question, and thanks for the comment and read.
Clinton was okay as far as it goes, but through the Democratic Leadership Council he began the process of expelling from the party the type of thinking that led to the New Deal
He had a lot to do with getting the Democratic Party where it is today, which is a party closely aligned with corporate interests, and losing the white working class to Republicans.
But it wasn't really his fault. Americans had been hypnotized by Reaganomics. It was a difficult time politically for Democrats. In his defense, he probably did what he had to do.
I'd take him in a minute over anybody the right wing would offer us, but he was transformative, in a bad way, in regards to Democratic policymaking.
His efforts in Northern Ireland were a wonderful thing. Administratively, he was also an excellent president.
Nothing is simple. So when I say they won their debate "under" Clinton, that's exactly what I mean. The blame lies with the American people for falling in love with small government and lower taxes and helping lurch the Democratic Party to the right.
The blame still lies with voters for the current mess of things.
