People won't like it - they tried this in Chicago and there was a near revolt - but I'd like to see higher taxes on sugar-based drinks, and, nationally, a genuine incentive to get food companies to stop putting sugar in everything.
Even jars of organic spaghetti sauce frequently have sugar in it. Why? Did you put sugar in your spaghetti sauce when you made homemade sauce? I know I never did.
Non-organic foods are filled with corn syrup. It's addictive and makes me people fat. Ban the stuff in basic food staples that don't need it for binding. Go ahead and put it in a Baby Ruth. I am buying the Baby Ruth. That's my fault. Fill it up full of corn syrup and sugar. It's on me if I buy it.
The food industry is capable of making even some of the cooler pre-packaged sauces and foods without sugar. They need a federal incentive to do so.
