Part of the reason Republicans don't get more thoroughly repudiated is that almost every single American believes they have a shot at getting rich.

There is a fundamental belief in the capitalist system, and Republicans are masters at leveraging this belief system and getting everyone to fight each other for scraps.

Good God, a mediocre digital artist made $70 million dollars the other day by selling a JPEG on the Christie's auction house platform.

A few sports stars and celebrities, often from poor backgrounds, make insane amounts of money, which makes everyone in the entertainment and sports industries think that they will, too.

The reality is quite different. For every Patrick Mahomes, there are 50 NFL players who will blow through their money before they are 50 and die from long term head injuries.

Even TikTok and YouTube "influencers" are getting in on the act, some making scads of money while most barely make enough to pay their internet bills.

For every gazillionaire start up founder, there are 100 failures, at least.

This notion that anybody can strike it rich will not ever change. It just won't. Full stop.

But there was a time when the U.S. had a high tax rate for extreme wealth (at one time up to 90% - but in the 70% range in the 70s before Reagan).

But Republicans have successfully convinced Americans that ratcheting up tax rates is communism.

This problem you've identified doesn't fall on Republicans. It falls on us for taking the bait.
