Not to butt in to your family dispute, but wouldn't renting a hotel room be cheaper than multiple portable a/c units? Either way, if the kids complain and want an expensive solution and are working age, they could contribute to the solution by getting out of your hair and working at a nice air conditioned big box store. :-)
