No, it's not enough to simply return to pre-Reagan days. But it's a start. We've swung so far to the right as a country that the outcome is inevitable. Far right countries always end up blowing themselves to smithereens, and they often take other countries with them. I think you know where we are headed.
There's a lot folks wishfully thinking about the country breaking up into smaller parts, but that's also not realistic. How would the nukes be split up? The military bases? The military hardware? This doesn't even consider the various economic integration issues that would pop up.
I don't have answers aside from the most basic: reintroducing appropriate tax brackets, establishing a public education industrial complex to replace the military industrial complex, and significant criminal justice and prison reform.
Our biggest problem is that the Democrats are the new Republican Party. They've replaced the Republicans as the party representing corporate interests and the Republicans have gone all far right crazy, and people are actually voting for them anyway.
I don't know how it's possible to go any further backwards than that, but it looks like we will.
