My old cis ass has a friend who is trying to transition here in Georgia. If subjecting yourself to a wild assortment of different kinds of hate doing the basic things most of us take for granted is trendy, then kids are pretty crazy these days (to me, she's still a kid — in her early 30s).
She even has to monitor Georgia legislative sessions to track what kind of vile, officially sanctioned hate crimes the state will be allowed to perpetrate on her in the future.
Not to mention local attitudes. Is it safe to dress as a woman as she transitions? Or will she get, you know, killed? It depends on what people know about her and where she is at the time.
Even dealing with something as basic as a change in her Driver's License is a huge chore.
I can't personally imagine having the courage to do this. I know for sure there are no trends in the world that could talk me into doing it.
