Man, I thought i was crazy when I didn't think Qaddafi was all that bad. Considering.
He was trying to reach out at the time, too. Just a very ugly scene by the U.S.
What I sort of get out this excellent essay is that human rights are actually a good thing if they can be enshrined formally within a viable constitution and a set of laws that follow the general guidelines the constitution establishes.
Where the U.S. goes wrong is in either pretending to spread its values to other countries, or actually thinking spreading its values to other countries is a good thing.
The U.S. is making the same mistake with China. It is probably undeniable that President Xi is authoritarian, and that he treats, for example, the Uighur people very badly.
But it's really not our affair. It all goes back to the old argument of the U.S. as a global cop. For one thing, it's very impractical. For another, it is a violation of human rights when the U.S. invades another country, such as Iraq, under the guise of human rights.
