I've often considered the stats you show and have wondered if that is why I don't enjoy the company of men -- realizing that statistics show that a large number of the men I encounter have committed acts of sexual violence towards a woman.
I don't enjoy being around a man who leers at a woman and says, "Look at the ____ on her."
I realize that women check men out, too, but it's just... different. Not threatening.
There ARE a few things guys can do.
If I'm walking behind a woman somewhere and it's a fairly isolated setting, I usually race in front of her, giving a wide birth, or better, go to the other side of the street. Anything, really, to avoid generating discomfort.
We can tell our boys that women should be treated with extreme respect, but men who who leer or hate of course, won't do that.
We can also remind our kids that there is a significant role model for platonic relationships between Mary Magdalene and Jesus - you don't need to be Christian to appreciate such an example.
At the end of the day, my hope is for a spiritual awakening that transforms the minds of men. That may be a hopeless fantasy, but I try to believe in miracles.
