My philosophy is to tip well, even if the service sucks, and even if the wait person is a little cranky. It's a really hard job, and we don't know what kind of day they've had.

I had a friend who waited tables and one of their regular customers swept his hand across the table and knocked everything to the floor. That has stuck with me even though I wasn't there.

The regular customer was not kicked out or asked to never come again.
