I've been writing since I was in grade school and I'm in my 60s now. Dangling mods (I try to give them a friendly name so they'll leave me alone) still haunt me. So, it's not just newbie writers! :-)

One trick I've learned to avoid them is to try to use more active verbs. Passive verbs tend to invite dangling modifiers like flies to poop.

Your examples were great. One thing that is lacking with a lot of these articles is a lack of examples. These examples were great clarifiers. Bravo.
