I've been saying for a long time that a wing will break off the Republican Party and form a centrist party. It's taking longer than I expected.

With Biden veering left like he seems to be, they may take a few neoliberal/corporatist Democrats with them.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Democrats shed these neoliberals and become a true progressive party again, leaving ultimately two main parties - the corporatists and a party that represents workers.

The Republicans in this scenario would die off as Trump loses his relevancy. Josh Hawley thinks he'll take Trump's place in the populist org chart, but he won't. He's too offensive to almost everybody.

As someone who leans hard left myself, I'd welcome a centrist party. I miss the days where I could talk politics over a beer or coffee with friends who don't think like me. I don't hate centrists - I appreciate their perspective, and I miss those days of more enlightened debate.

Bring it on, I say, and let's start healing.
