I've been arguing for years that we need to return to higher taxes on the wealthy. But I also believe that Black folks should pay no taxes for the next 50 years no matter the income bracket. It's about the only way we can come anywhere close to reparations.
How to determine who qualifies? That's a bit tricky but it's not rocket science. We should be able to manage it, and it can't be decided by a bunch of greasy old white dudes in a Senate committee somewhere.
One flaw in Wise's evaluation of taxes is that there were few incomes in those higher brackets, and the tax code was full of loopholes.
We need an ironclad wealth and upper income tax, for sure, for a thousand reasons that transcend racial justice.
Reagan convinced Americans that big government is bad. They pretty much still believe it.
One step toward fixing that is making them understand that the most ridiculous of them (white southerners) are among the biggest beneficiaries of big government, and that pushing extra money toward Black and other non-whites doesn't mean it's being pulled out of their pockets. There is plenty of money to go around. The rich are hoarding it.
