It's pretty amazing, actually, and not appreciated by the white community whatsoever. I would say it was the major inspiration for the alternative history novel I recently finished about a great African nation that arises in the low country after the Brits emancipate the slaves after the failed revolutionary war. A beta reader asked, "wouldn't the freed slaves have sought revenge?" I truly didn't believe they would have, and so the novel isn't revenge porn.
