It was about oil.

The terrorists who attacked the WTC were born out of America’s hunger for oil and the terrible policies that result from that.

Afghanistan was a hunting ground as we tried to catch bad guys (and they were bad…two wrongs don’t make a right) but that war never happens without 9/11, which happened because of a radical response to American oil policy.

The US is still fawning over the House of Saud, despite the way it filets journalists it doesn’t like.

I’m not suggesting the answers are easy. I think President Obama is fully aware that whatever replaces the Saudi regime is likely to be worse than the kingdom.

Anyway, by the time Mr. Obama came to town the damage was done.

A big step can be taken by prioritizing normal relations with Iran. Young Iranians are hungry for American culture. Well, they were before Trump. He sort of blew away what was left of our reputation. But engagement with Iran will lead to a collapse of their autocratic theocracy a lot faster than these ridiculous games we and the Israelis are playing in Natanz.
