It was a good article, though! I'm constantly annoyed at the American foreign policy establishment's apparent desire to find enemies. Okay, well, Putin I understand. But China? I'm sort of in awe of the place. But maybe that's part of the motivation behind finding the enemy there.

I do think that the economic infrastructure that has been built between the two countries will win the day. It's almost a benign form of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) the U.S. held with the Soviets for so long regarding nukes. But in this case, the mutually assured destruction involves interlinked economies that would both be destroyed in a war.

ALL countries have their faults, idiosyncrasies, and terrible policies. America's entire continental empire was built on genocide, ethnic cleansing, and slavery. We (by we I mean we here in the U.S.) have no business wagging the finger at countries who have chosen to govern themselves differently than we do. Maybe, just maybe, we can actually learn a thing or two.
