I really hate that. I live in Atlanta and I feel like the zoning here works a little bit against this long term reality, much more so than my hometown of Chicago. But that's mostly because Atlanta is becoming a Black-run town (which I think is marvelous). So we have mayors here who are interested in changing these established norms, and a city council with much lower resistance than in Chicago.
Chicago, of course, now has a Black mayor again, but there is still an entrenched, and corrupt, white resistance to change.
I'm an optimist. I believe positive change is coming and that the current backlash is actually reflective of that, just as the excitement over Kamala is. Always enjoy your writing!
