It is a perfectly fine way to explain it. I think you underestimate the deep level of ignorance most Americans have about, well, almost everything, quite frankly.
That's understandable for anyone living across the pond.
In fact, I would wager a few thousand pounds that half of all Americans couldn't find your wee island on a world map.
I doubt most Americans know much about Brexit, either. If they visited London, many, especially Trump voters, would be stunned by the diversity there. I haven't been there since 1977 and I was amazed even then. I can only imagine how it is now. (And desperately want to return soon).
So this story is designed for those who don't understand the consequences. That is a whole lot of people.
Will this story actually reach those people?
Probably not. Umair is, sadly, yelling in the echo chamber. But that's a different problem we have yet to solve.
