In a way this story is validation for me never being able to get into Adult Swim, which has been around a very long time (not as long as me, but not many of you have, either).

Was I just not hip? I've wondered occasionally. Well, honestly, I've wondered once or twice. I've probably spent a grand total of two hours on the thing in its thirty or whatever years of existence (40? More?).

I think it's worth noting that the Rick and Morty stuff, and toons like it, come from a pretty crass underground comic scene that was around before cable (and of course, the Internet).

A lot of it was misogynist and creepy. Some of it sprouted better stuff like Matt Goering's Life in Hell, which may or may not have also had some of that stuff. If it did, I didn't see any of it, but who knows? But the overall body of work had the mentality of 12 year old boys who never got scolded for their toilet jokes.

We live in a society that seems to celebrate that kind of twelve year old boy humor. When you don't think it's funny, you are said to be lacking in intellectual sophistication, when in reality, the opposite it true.
