I'm probably left of Bernie. If I had been mayor of Burlington like he was, I wouldn't have acquiesced to the demands of the business community to build up the riverfront.
Bernie was a breath of fresh air to presidential politics, but he wasn't a God.
I reject the notion that the two parties are the same.
One party is, as you correctly defined it, a party of corporatists. But it still, generally, believes in the electoral process.
The other party is a party of raging fundamentalists who are hell bent on creating an authoritarian state.
If you want progressive leadership, vote for it. Vote in municipal elections and school board elections. I guarantee you that the authoritarian party will vote in them.
If you want progressive leadership, you need a bench.
The left in America died a long time ago. Focus on bringing it back if you don't like the political hacks of the center.
In the meantime, if you DON'T vote for the center, you are going to be stuck with more fucked up supreme court decisions. And that will be on you, my friend. Not me, because I'll swallow hard and vote for the corporatists until young people get off their ass and vote en masse.
That's all it takes. Most young people agree with the essence of this post. So do I. So, vote for people who also agree with it, and stop whining about the centrists who run your life.
