I'm on the tail end of the baby boomer generation and I've been watching this country veer hard right since 1980, non-stop.
Who's to blame for that? Voters. All of 'em. And those who don't vote, which is still pretty much half the country, and even more when they're young.
Young people have always been the smallest percentile to vote. Then, people get older, more conservative, and they flock to the polls and vote for Republicans.
This has been going on since the 1970s. Young people today are a little more active, but there really isn't much of a difference statistically today over the the 1970s and 1980s in young voter participation.
I understand why - the choices now are between corporate-owned Democrats and fascists. I don't have answers, but I won't be shocked if young people turn the tables completely upside down. Right now, everything is coming to a head - impossible rents, cars prices designed for millionaires (that people buy anyway), climate disaster, and an emerging American nationalist Christian government.
These kinds of pressures will result in an explosive reaction. Too much stress results in fracture - basic law of physics. It's only a matter of when, not if.
