I'm not Black, but I wrote a novella (as part of a teaser for a longer novel still in the works) anyway about an alternative world where slaves were emancipated after the failed Revolutionary War and built a great African nation on the East Coast.

The world that the novella takes place in is not completely prison-free - murders and rapes still result in imprisonment, but everything else is.

And the one prison that does exist is rife with corruption, which is at the center of the novella.

I don't normally push the novella in comments but I felt it pertinent enough to do so in this case, because I find the subject matter very compelling.

The society the folks in the novella live in is very religious, and they feel that the Bible is clear about the nature of imprisonment in general.
